Computer virus is a piece of software that is capable of replicating by itself and is spreading by attaching clones of itself to various executables.
Virus attachment to software application is called infection and the infected file is called a virus host.
Term virus is a general term referring to worms, backdoors, trojan horses and other types of viruses or malware.
Viruses can be either destructive (destroying data) or "harmless". The latter would simply annoy computer user by slowing down his machine.
